Collaborate, Community, Connect!!! This week we highlight Gftw’s Community Call, Snake Nation’s Hackathon, Black Web Fest 2021, Hyperaudio's plugin and new grant reports...

A very mindful Grant for the Web Community Call

Kudo’s to GftW Grantees Erica Hargreave, Pamela Alexander and Briana Stuart for hosting the September 29th Community Call. Participants did a meditation icebreaker led by Pamela, master of mindfulness and shared insight into how we are all helping to bridge connections in the Web Monetization community. Btw meditation rocks! Erica shared an update on the Web Monetisation Libraries on StoryToGo that she set up to help to begin connecting the projects. Briana shared with us her work and the connections she’s made throughout her project. Many thanks to these wonderful grantees for taking the time to lead the Community Call round.

Snake Nation Hosts Woman in Tech Hackathon

Lawil Karama of Snake Nation shared...
This weekend we will host our Woman in Tech Hackathon (Friday 1st till 2nd of October) Snake Nation partnered with Openseed to establish Women in Innovation and Business(WIB) Society, a university programme designed for correcting all the barriers to diversity by working with diverse partners, judges, mentors, and trainers; expanding recruitment networks to diversify the pipeline; designing curriculum intentionally tailored to more diverse needs.

More about Hackathons, share your questions

Uchi needs your help. Hi there, please post any SCA Web Monetization Hackathon questions here and connect with other members of the Web Monetization community.

Get your tickets to the Black Web Fest 2021, NYC

Victoria Coker hosts the annual festival Black Web Fest 2021
Hi, This Friday, October 1st and Saturday, October 2nd I will be hosting my annual festival, Black Web Fest. On Friday, we will have some individuals from the Web Monetization community on a web monetization panel. Day two will be our in-person event in Brooklyn, New York so if your available come through. Both days we will screen films by independent Black filmmakers. If you are available to attend please visit Blackwebfest.org to register.

Who’s got the plugin?

Mark Boas shares "We decided to make payment pointers "portable" by making them part of the transcript itself. In the Hyperaudio Wordpress plugin (which relies upon Hyperaudio Lite) all that's required to make use of those payment pointers is to turn on Web Monetization in the plugin (or Hyperaudio Lite library) and include those pointers somewhere in your transcript..."

GftW grantee shares their progress reports

Sarah Pappalardo of Reductress reports Members Only is a special section for Coil-enabled users where they can engage with our content in a way that regular readers can't - specially curated feeds of content based on featured authors and irreverent tags we've used on all our legacy content, to create a new way to engage with our content beyond just the newest-first stuff you'd find on our homepage. Users will be able to upvote/downvote content within a feed, so that the most upvoted content will display at the top of the feed. That way, popular posts from years ago can still be enjoyed by our new readers/members.

GftW grantee shares their progress reports #2

Radhy Radmahan of ProgNovel writes "Grant for the Web funds helps tremendously. I was finally able to refresh my hardware for development and developing ProgNovel wasn't as painfully slow as it used to, even allowing me to works on multiple projects at the same time. Latest iteration of Webfunding.js is only possible because I simultaneously develop Webfunding.js and tested it on ProgNovel for instant feedback loops. Without it, I probably would settle with the old Webfunding.js syntax because I'd spend my time developing with frustration of coding with lags instead of getting inspired."

That's it for now, remember to Collaborate, Community, Connect!!!

The Community Call was incredible. I especially liked how everyone had a chance to introduce themselves and say how they can help members and contribute to the community.
Thank you @ericahargreave , @palexander and @creativelivingfordancers for making the community Call all about how we can all help each other.

Thanks Michael. Enjoyed learning about everyone. It's too bad that we were not able to hear from all before people had to start leaving. Thanks for joining us and for sharing!

Thanks. As follow up - are we going to get a list of all the links people posted?

Once I get a chance to go through the notes and figure out how best to share.

Thank you
Maybe we can create a google doc for links and have it up simultaneously with the zoom?

Thanks for your suggestion, Michael. I am not actually looking for ideas at the moment, rather just need the time to see what's there and determine how best to share with everyone's privacy in mind.
