31 minutes (so far) of harmless fun for the whole family — TEDDYstory

Project overview

TEDDYstory publishes stories about Teddys that do adventurous and interesting things with their people.

The stories are short, and broken down into bite-sized chunks to make them easy to read. Parts 1-4 of Meeting Mars Teddy takes about 31 minutes.

All the stories have multiple versions so you can choose to read it your way. You can even customise the names and genders of the characters if you like.

Project team

The team pushing the commits to GitHub is me and my llama painting. That's the llama painting up there at the top of the post.

My llama painting was a birthday present this year from the test audience. It is mildly sinister, but I love it.

The team supporting me and my llama is way bigger. Most of my family has been roped in, or offered to help in one way or another, and I can't thank them all enough.

Even my two dearly beloved, and now departed, cats help out, they gave me my pen name Hailstorm.

What's happening with TEDDYstory

I just finished developing and testing the story customisation feature.

I'm really proud of the fact that I invented at least 9 new variations on swear words while working on that feature.

They weren't particularly good or inventive new swear words, just existing ones daisy chained together if I'm honest. I also know a lot more about state management in React now.

What's coming next is writing, finishing off at least 1 of the 3 stories competing to be next.

And then there's the home page redesign, the styling & colours, working on internationalisation, and fixing whatever I inevitably break along the way.

Most of this is on the TEDDYstory roadmap, a carefully curated, and far less chaotic, version of my development kanban board (that I am too ashamed to show anyone).

What community support would benefit your project?

Have a read of the stories.

Find out the stories behind TEDDYstory on the blog.

Forgive me for not having any of the social side organised just yet and drop me an old school email at teddy@teddy-story.com with any thoughts, feedback, or anything at all really.

Link Round Up!

Here's some links for anyone feeling clicky

Wait, what, where did that last one come from?!?

I do much less fun non-fiction too, and if you're into things like FAIR and open data (there should be a few of us kicking around MozFest I reckon) some of that might make sense or be remotely interesting.

Highlight other projects

I don't feel like I've had anywhere near enough time to even scratch the surface of all the cool stuff that everyone else is doing (I've barely had time to lift my head and look out from the TEDDYstory trench, let alone post anything anywhere or read about in detail), but projects that have grabbed my attention so far (in no particular order)

Thanks very much Michael - glad you like Teddy Story :) It's been so much fun to write.

I love the llama painting so much too - that was a birthday present painted for me by the the Test Audience (as he's known in the TS blog). It's gloriously menacing and watches disapprovingly over me while I work (or slack off)
